Taxi Cab Confessions

"Why Not" said the NYC taxi driver as I asked him if he was voting for Obama. Why the defensiveness, I wondered.

This particular election has brought out my curiosity in a citizen's mind-set more so than before. The clients that I meet, my colleagues and friends...and strangers.

During my 10 minute cab ride, we briefly started to talk about the election -- really just to pass the time. He was flipping through the NY Post periodically as the taxi stopped at the lights. He was 95% confident everything would be "ok" but then said he thought that there would be a 5% chance of some sabotage by the republicans. Such cynicism and distrust.

Casting my vote makes me feel good... my civic duty...shows my support..I can tell my friends...something to talk about. Although certain policies espoused by the candidates will certainly impact my life, I believe the "value" of my vote will be seen more by the Taxi Driver.

Sitting on the Acela, headed back to DC.
